CES Shows Us The Future Of New Media

First of all, happy new year. I hope 2010 is a healthy and prosperous year for all of you! Now on to CES and New Media.

You are probably wondering, by the title of this post, how can CES show us the future of new media?

If you look at all the press releases and announcements coming out of CES, they all seem to be related to “Web videos” or “Internet Apps”. The convergence of home entertainment systems and the web is finally happening and it’s happening very quickly.

Just look at Samsung’s release of the new “multi-device app store” that will allow you to install Internet enabled apps on your Samsung TV, Blu-ray players, etc. How cool is that?

Or why not take a look at Roku, Boxee Box and Popbox HD, all set top manufacturers bringing the web to your TV.

Want Skype on TV? You need to look no further then Panasonic HDTVs supporting Skype.

This is great news for you and your company. Why do you ask? Great question! A Blue-ray player or Television is nothing without content. With all these new web enabled capabilities being built into home entertainment systems, there is a lack of “good content” from the web. That’s where you come in.

Companies are looking for content and lots of it. If you are a producer of great content, then your opportunities are huge. You can strike deals with these manufacturers to bring you content to their device and to a new bigger audience.

As far as developers and programmers of new media, you have it set. There are tons of new opportunities to make money creating applications, not just for the web browser any longer, but for the TVs, Blue-ray players, mobile phones, etc. Of course, that means more learning and more keeping up with technology and SDKs, but that’s why we do this right? Because we love all this technology.

Want to see what’s new at CES? CNMSTV.com will be there today, Saturday and Sunday videotaping interviews about the new products. We’ll have them up by the end of this month for you to check out.

Enjoy the technology, learn and remember, New Media is the future, so start using it today before it becomes just media!

  1. Hey Marcelo,
Nice article. You are so right about web enabled home entertainment. I just bought the new Samsung TV and am looking forward to the app store even though a lot of the capabilities being touted like Flickr integration etc., I already have with my AppleTV. The other thing I got of of CES is 3D coming to home entertainment. I am on the fence about 3D, it still gives me a headache. I didn’t think Madonna or NBC’s Friends were going to make it either so no one should listen to me.
