DESCRIPTION

Nearly everyone in video (and many in film) production are being touched by the DSLR revolution. This revolution in image acquisition boils down to very affordable cameras and lenses shooting unbelievably gorgeous images. This accessibility isn’t without compromise as the cameras don’t offer many of the features that have been commonplace in professional video equipment for years. There’s also compromises in the post-production of DSLR acquired images as well.

In this webinar we’ll look at exactly what those acquisition formats are and why you might want to edit your DSLR footage in a more post-production friendly format. The Canon cameras (5D, 7D, T2i) are by far the most popular DSLR cameras so we will focus mostly on their H.264 format but other cameras will be discussed briefly.

Post-production software will deal mainly with Final Cut Studio but Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro will both be discussed as they can natively edit the Canon’s H.264 files.

AGENDA

  • What comes out of the camera?
  • The importance of backing up file-based cameras.
  • Transcoding to a more post-production friendly format.
  • Tools for transcoding to other formats.
  • When, why and how to stay H.264 native.
  • A default Canon image vs. a flattened Canon image.
  • Advanced topics: offline to online, color grading, frame rates
